Position Summary

The Fleet & Facility Maintenance Worker will be responsible for overseeing fleet management and maintenance operations, as well as providing support for facility maintenance within the municipal government. This role requires a skilled individual with experience in automotive maintenance, equipment operation, and general facility upkeep. This role requires a strong attention to detail, the ability to prioritize tasks effectively, and a commitment to ensuring the safety and functionality of municipal assets.

Responsibilities and Reporting During an Emergency Situation: If assigned, employees in this classification will be required to report and carry out duties as directed for the duration of an emergency. Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may require working around the clock for several days on short notice.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Fleet Management

Oversee the maintenance and repair of municipal vehicles and equipment, including trucks, cars, and specialized vehicles (Kubota etc.).
Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to ensure the reliability and longevity of the fleet.
Conduct regular inspections of vehicles and equipment to identify issues and perform necessary repairs or adjustments.
Coordinate with vendors and service providers for outsourced maintenance and repairs as needed while following procurement protocol and policy.
Maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance history, including repairs, inspections, and service intervals.
Monitor fuel usage and implement strategies for optimizing fuel efficiency and reducing costs.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards for vehicle operation and maintenance.
Purchase parts and accessories necessary for repair, and manages fuel resources for the Town's Fleet Maintenance, associated areas and equipment while following procurement protocol and policy.
Create, implement, and maintain Vehicle Inspection Checklist to be used daily by employees to ensure they are properly maintaining Town vehicles to company standards.
Perform routine inspections to ensure Town employees are maintaining vehicles at appropriate standards to ensure the longevity and proper care of each vehicle.
Maintain inventory levels of supplies, parts, and materials necessary for fleet maintenance.

Facilities Maintenance:

Assist with general maintenance tasks for municipal buildings and facilities, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry work.
Perform routine inspections of facilities to identify maintenance needs and safety hazards reporting concerns to Supervisor as needed.
Repair or replace faulty equipment, fixtures, or infrastructure to maintain functionality and safety.
Assist with landscaping, and grounds maintenance as needed.
Coordinate with external contractors for major repairs or renovations as necessary.
Maintain inventory levels of supplies, parts, and materials necessary for facility maintenance.
Monitor usage and reorder supplies as needed to ensure adequate stock levels.
Track expenditures and maintain accurate records of inventory transactions.
Ensure compliance with building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
Complete maintenance logs, work orders, and inspection reports accurately and promptly.
Provide regular updates on maintenance activities, expenditures, and inventory status to management.
Completes documentation and reports as required for vehicles and daily operations.
Adhere to safety guidelines and regulations while performing maintenance tasks to prevent accidents and injuries.
Report maintenance issues, damage, or safety concerns to supervisors for prompt resolution.
Collaborate with other maintenance workers, departments, and agencies to complete tasks efficiently and effectively.
Assists with Town-wide Public Works requests to include night and weekend support for meetings and events.
Performs weekend and holiday work as assigned.
Attends all required training for operations.
Attends all assigned meetings.
Operates a motor vehicle in performance of assigned tasks as directed.
Performs emergency response tasks and assignments as directed.
Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Certification, and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or technical training in automotive mechanics, facilities maintenance, or related field preferred.
Proven experience in automotive maintenance, including knowledge of diagnostic tools and equipment.
Two (2) years working experience in operating and maintaining a variety of vehicles and equipment, including trucks, tractors, mowers, and power tools preferred.
Two (2) years working experience in building systems and maintenance practices, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry preferred.
Must possess a valid state driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of principles, methods, and practices pertaining to the operation of fleet management, equipment maintenance and repair facility.
Knowledge of principles, materials, methods, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance of buildings.
Knowledge of tools, lubricants, equipment, and procedures used in servicing, over-hauling, repairing, and adjusting a variety of automotive and other power-driven equipment, current trends in alternative fuel and fuel systems.
Knowledge of building maintenance practices and procedures.
Knowledge of safe work practices. Occupational Health and Safety Standards for Industrial and Commercial Facilities.
Knowledge of operating and repair characteristics of a variety of gas and diesel-powered light and heavy equipment.
Knowledge and application of safety standards and precautions pertaining to the use of tools and equipment.
Knowledge of the techniques and procedures used in facility repair and maintenance.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards, safety precautions and personal protective equipment observed in the trade(s) of assignment.
Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, ordinances, resolutions, and procedures.
Skill in Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, brake, fuel and electrical defects in a wide variety of automotive and heavy duty truck equipment.
Skill to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Skilled in mechanical repair and maintenance activities of town vehicles and equipment.
Ability to estimate labor and material costs and requirements for mechanical maintenance and repair
Skilled in maintaining accurate service records
Ability to read and understand vehicle/equipment electrical, air, hydraulic and coolant circuit diagrams.
Ability to read and follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to utilize a variety of modern office equipment and operate a computer as necessary.
Ability to work outdoors often during extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.).
Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.
Ability to handle a multitude of diverse tasks simultaneously while maintaining an attention to detail for the purpose of ensuring accuracy in task performance.
Ability to draw valid conclusions in task processing and prioritization.
Ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape, and visually read various types of information.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other employees and the public.
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot mechanical and structural issues.

Physical Requirements:

The position involves heavy physical demands, such as exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
Tasks involve frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, some unassisted lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects up to 50 pounds and occasionally heavy objects up to 100 pounds with the assistance of other employees and/or equipment as appropriate.
Requires excellent eye/hand/foot coordination for operating standard and specialized electrical and gas operated equipment.

Environmental Requirements:

Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, extreme temperatures and noise extremes, fumes, hazardous materials, heights, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, water hazards, bright/dim light, toxic agents, disease, pathogenic substances, or animal/wildlife attacks.

Sensory Requirements:
